Primal DietAs you may know by now. There is a direct coalition between Diet and Health as we can gather from the old saying, “you are what you eat”. Having poor eating habits and consuming exuberant amount of unhealthy foods contribute to weakening the body which in turn will lead to poor health. These bad habits contribute to various medical conditions.

Obesity

The incidence of obesity in children and adults have increased dramatically to the point that it is considered an epidemic by the World Health Organization.  The consumption of sugars, saturated fats, processed foods (including processed grains), whole grains and legumes are all part of an energy-dense, nutrient-poor diet. Add to this very little physical activity and you have most of the contributing factors to obesity.

Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular Disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Most of these deaths are highly preventable by taking action on the major risks factors of an unhealthy diet, such as diets high on saturated fats and trans fats and topping it all off by lack of movement and inactivity.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and it usually occurs gradually.  Overweight individual are very likely to develop insulin resistance. Family history and genetics also play a major factor in the development of this condition. But the greatest contributing factors are excess body weigh, poor diet, and physical inactivity.

High Cholesterol

eating foods that are high in saturated fats, and trans fats lead to high serum cholesterol levels. People with high cholesterol also increase their risk for a stroke. Excessive amounts of low-density lipoprotein or LDL accumulate slowly on the walls lining the arteries that supply the heart and the brain causing the person to fall victim of a stroke.

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is the accumulation of plaque or fat deposits in and on the artery walls. Plaque buildup causes a restriction in the blood flow through the blood vessels which carry the blood from the heart to the rest of the body. High cholesterol is one of the risk factors for developing this condition. Aneurysms, heart attack, stroke and peripheral artery disease are complications of atherosclerosis.

Hypertension

Hypertension is one of the common condition that has many risk factors. Blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood the heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in the arteries. An increase in the amount of blood pumped by the heart and narrowing of the arteries causes a rise in blood pressure. Excessive alcohol use, too much salt and too little potassium in the diet are a few risk factors for developing hypertension.

Gout

High levels of uric acid in the blood produce urate crystals which accumulate around joints and cause inflammation and intense pain. This condition, known as gout, is linked to lifestyle risk factors, certain medications and family history. Excessive alcohol use and high levels of fat in the blood are two risk factors for developing gout.

Iron-Deficiency Anemia

Anemia occurs when there is an insufficient amount of hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is the component in red blood cells that transports oxygen throughout the body. An iron deficiency is the most common cause of anemia. An iron-poor diet, blood loss and the body’s increased need for iron during pregnancy are factors that deplete the body’s iron reserve.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is an illness that can strike at any age and affects men and women. The bones become weak and are very susceptible to fractures. There are many risk factors that lead to bone loss. Some risk factors, such as gender, age, body size, ethnicity and family history, cannot be controlled. However, a diet low in calcium and vitamin D and excessive alcohol use are risk factors that can be controlled.

Dental Cavities

Tooth decay is a common condition for children and adults. The cause of dental cavities is a combination of poor oral hygiene and diet. The bacteria, which are normally present in the mouth, convert food, especially starches and sugars, into acids. The acids, bacteria, food debris and saliva combine to form plaque which adheres to teeth within 20 minutes after eating. Tooth decay begins and flourishes if teeth are not properly and routinely brushed. Carbohydrates, sticky foods and frequent snacking increase the risk of tooth decay.

 

As you can see these are some of the most common illnesses in todays society and all of them have a common denominator, poor eating habits, lack of exercise, and eating the wrong foods.  Adopting a Primal-Paleo Lifestyle will defenitly help you by improving your diet and exercise program and can even help reprogram your genes.

One of the most outstanding characteristics of this diet is that it is composed of 37% protein, 41% carbohydrates (Only from fruits and vegetables), and 22% fat. On the other hand the Standard American Diet consist of 50% carbohydrates (mostly from refined grains and other high-glycemic foods), 35% fat, and just 15% protein.  In comparison with the Primal-Paleo Diet we can see that the Standard American Diet actually leaves a lot to be desired as far as receiving all the nutrients your body needs to be healthy and fight disease, actually, this diet pretty much helps in the development of diseases.

There are five rules or principles to this type of diet. And in addition there are also seven basic movements you should be performing when you exercise. Once you start combining all these elements, you will begin to be a part of The Primal-Paleo Lifestyle and you will begin seeing enormous changes in your life and Health.
