Well Alfie let me tell you that the Primal Diet is not just a thing of the moment and that you will definitely know what’s it all about once I sort it for you in this article. In this article I will highlight interviews of some of the most renowned professionals involved in the Primal and Paleo Lifestyle.

Without further ado, here is what these Health Professionals had to say about the Primal-Pale Diet.

Dr. Loren Cordain

The Paleo DietDr. Cordain is the world’s foremost authority on the evolutionary basis of diet and disease. He is also the author of the book titled The PaleThe Paleo Diet: Lose Weight and get Healthy by Eating the Foods you Were Designed to Eat.  In an interview conducted by Dana Trentini, he was asked: (1)

The Paleo Diet can be a drastic lifestyle change. What are three pieces of advice you would give someone who is just starting to follow it?

1. Give it at least four weeks, and if possible get a brief blood workup by a healthcare professional and see how things change before and after. Carefully listen to your body and note how you feel after eating Paleo.

2. Work with a support group — many can be found online, and CrossFit Gyms nationwide offer a four week Paleo challenge.

3. Know that Paleo allows flexibility in the 85:15 rule, meaning what you do 85% of the time will have more impact upon your health and well-being than occasional “cheats” 15% of the time. Most people once they fully adopt Paleo, are typically 90-95% compliant or better.

My Take: Researches have found that a habit needs to be performed at lease 21 times so it can become part of your daily life so his 4 weeks recommendation is quite sufficient in order to start acquiring a healthier diet.  Support groups are also very important since you sometimes will need someone to pick you up when and you will fall. The Paleo Diet is not a life sentence, you do have some flexibility here and the 85:15 rule is a good place to start. What this rule tells you is that you will be eating Paleo for 85% of the time while you can break the rules once in a while as long as it does not equal more than 15% of the time.

Mark Sisson

The Primal BlueprintMark Sisson is a renowned author, blogger and former long distance runner. His books include what many consider the bible of the Primal Lifestyle: The Primal Blueprint

In an Interview conducted by Riva Greenburg he was asked various questions among them: (2)

You talk in your book about one being a “sugar-burning” or a “fat-burning” person. What does that mean?

A sugar-burner requires a steady drip of dietary sugar – fructose and glucose – to maintain energy levels. So they can’t go long without eating. They burn basically carbohydrate and have difficulty accessing their stored body fat to use for energy, and in terms of weight loss, burn their fat. A fat-burner uses both their body fat and dietary glucose for energy and ends up burning fat which leads to weight loss. Also, if a fat-burner skips a meal, it’s okay because he can run for days on his own fat (adipose) tissue.

Why do you believe eating Primal is the way we were meant to eat?

I tried eating “the right way” for over thirty years and it nearly killed me. I was the paragon of fitness, a competitive marathoner and triathlete who ate whole grains and beans and watched my red meat intake. It didn’t work. Since I have always been a student of human evolution, I got my degree in biology, I started thinking about health in terms of nutrition and fitness. I did a lot of research and self-experimentation and trained tons of people, enough to realize that the Primal way of eating works. And I’ve found it works for just about everyone who gives it an honest try.

My Take: It is important to know that as we continue to eat in the way conventional wisdom teaches us. Our capabilities to burn fat diminishes while we turn into a sugar burning mechanism.  The problem here is that the body can only burn certain percentage of the sugar intake while the excess sugar is neutralized by the insulin production in our bodies. The problem with diabetes lies in the mass production of insulin demanded by our bodies and the inefficiency by which our bodies fail to produce the amount of insulin need.

Another key factor is that the sugar the body does not need or is not neutralized by insulin is stored as fat.  Since our genes are not programmed to burn fat it keeps demanding sugar to burn while the fat keeps piling up.

Neely Quinn

The Complete Idiot's Guid to Eating PaleoNeely Quinn is a Certified Integrative Clinical Nutrition Therapist. She is also a blogger in paleoplan.com and author of the book The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Eating Paleo In an interview conducted by Dana Trentini, she asked: (1)

As a Nutrition Therapist, I am sure you have experimented with a lot of different ways to approach healthy eating. Why are you a big fan of the Paleo Diet?

That’s true — I have experimented with a lot of approaches to eating. Whether they were all healthy or not is definitely questionable. I was a vegetarian from the age of about 12 to 22, which really REALLY messed me up. I got very sick, gained a lot of weight, had digestive problems, asthma, acne, depression and all kinds of stuff I won’t go into now. But once I started eating meat again, I definitely started to heal. My body was screaming for protein. Through the years since then, I just pinpointed more and more food sensitivities that I had. Each time I’d remove some certain food, a symptom (or two or three) would go away. Eventually I found myself faced with the fact that I could not tolerate any grains at all — even gluten-free ones — and not many legumes, either. So I stumbled upon Paleo, really, because it makes me feel the best, absolutely, no doubt about it.

Then I started using it with my nutrition clients and I found I no longer had to use the food sensitivities testing I’d been using because if I just guided them through eating Paleo, their symptoms almost always went away. I’m not saying Paleo is for everyone. There are some people who it’s just not right for — it’s not worth it to change their diet like this, and they live very symptom-free lives with no real motivation to change. But for a lot of people wanting to lose weight, get their blood sugar under control, have more energy, and better digestion (among many other things), Paleo is a great place to start.

My Take: The Paleo Diet might not be for everyone especially if you have a healthy weight, no serious health problems. You really would not have any motivation at all to make these Lifestyle changes.  But if in the other hand you want to lose weight, you want to have an excellent quality of live with very few if any illnesses, then The Paleo Diet would be something you would want to consider especially if you over weight or obese, have thyroid problems, Intestinal problems, heart problems and so on.  Many of theses illnesses are highly preventable by making changes to your eating habits. And the Paleo Diet is an excellent diet to help in the treatment and prevention of these illnesses.
